When you’re starting out with a new business, it can be tricky figuring out how to get your brand noticed on a budget. Do you save until you have enough money for an ad campaign in the local press? Do you focus all of your attention on social media? Or do you jump in head first and try to get the word out yourself by any means possible?

One thing’s for sure, you probably don’t have thousands of pounds to spare for full-page adverts and glossy brochures like some of your more established competitors. This isn’t a problem though. There are plenty of simple, cheap and hugely effective ways of building brand awareness on a budget, and we’re going to share a few of them with you!

1. Optimise your website for mobile users

Mobile now accounts for a whopping 51% of UK e-commerce sales. That’s not a figure to be scoffed at. So if you sell your products and services online, ensuring your site is optimised for mobile-friendly viewing should be a priority. Don’t lose your potential clients to a rival over an outdated website template. One way of keeping your web design costs low would be to opt for a parallax scrolling one-page website. They’re simple, effective and beautiful.

2. Blog and write articles

Creating original content is an excellent way of building links, attracting people to your site and encouraging conversions.

3. Get social

Create social media accounts and communicate with your audience. There are so many to choose from – just don’t take on more than you can handle. Creating a content schedule will help you keep track of your posts.

4: Interact and engage

Once you’ve set up social media accounts, you’ll have to put in work to keep posts updated and relevant. Don’t forget to interact and engage with your audience too. Show your followers and potential clients that you’re actively interested in what they have to say.

5. Network

Never underestimate the power of face-to-face meetings and follow-up calls. Whether you choose local small business networking sessions or seminars and workshops, giving people a face (and winning personality) to put to a brand is a great way of spreading awareness of your new business.

6. Ask for feedback, and act on it!

Too many businesses ask for feedback from clients and fail to act on it. Don’t be one of them. You can use feedback to find your strengths as well as your weaknesses, prioritise changes in your business, improve reviews – the list is endless. Remember: to build brand awareness you first have to be aware of what people already know and think of your business.
